About Walnut Cottage

Located near Washford village, this ground-floor property sits on higher slopes within the Shells holiday collection. Everything here is designed for pure comfort - from the open-plan living space to the private patio garden where you can sip wine while the kids are finally asleep.

Set in several acres of rural countryside, this place gives you proper breathing room. The Somerset coast is practically on your doorstep with Watchet just 2 miles away and Minehead 6 miles down the road. Exmoor National Park and the Quantock Hills are close by for those who fancy working up a sweat before the inevitable evening drink. And let's be honest - that hot tub is calling your name after a day of hiking.

The accommodation features two bedrooms - one with a double bed and another with adult bunks, both with TVs because holiday arguments over what to watch are so 1990s. The wet room comes with underfloor heating (your feet will thank you), while the open-plan living area includes a fully-equipped kitchen with everything from a dishwasher to Netflix access. Even your four-legged friend is welcome - one well-behaved dog can join the holiday fun.

Nearby attractions include Dunster Castle (15 minutes), where medieval history meets stunning gardens. Explore the West Somerset Railway (5 minutes) for vintage steam train rides through gorgeous countryside. Cleeve Abbey (5 minutes) offers peaceful ruins to wander, while Minehead Beach (15 minutes) provides classic seaside fun with its long sandy shoreline.

Walnut Cottage is perfect for small families or couples wanting quality time without sacrificing comfort. That private hot tub seals the deal - nothing beats bubbles under the stars after exploring Somerset's best bits.

Walnut Cottage Reviews

Walnut cottage was not available for us to stay in because of an electrical problem so the owner kindly moved us to Ash Lodge. Ash Lodge was spacious, clean and had all the facilities we required, we enjoyed our stay here and would book this lodge again.
Justine
Fabulous property, had everything we needed and we loved the hot tub and were so impressed that this was cleaned and checked twice everyday. The team were really friendly and helpful. The only slight negative was the sofa, we spent most nights in and it wasn't that comfy but it's such a small thing and did not take away from a wonderful stay. Thank you all so much.
Everything was fabulous staff were friendly and helpful, surroundings beautiful, if I was to comment it would be that as it's dog friendly it would be ideal that the fencing was more enclosed as I had to keep my dog on a lead to go to toilet, that is my only negative comment. Thankyou for a fantastic stay.
Brenda
The property was well maintained and had everything you would want. It was very clean, and they checked the hot tub twice a day, it was a great tub everything working and spotless.
We had a super week in Walnut Cottage. It is rare to find somewhere so peaceful and with such high standards. The hot tub was serviced twice a day and the site & property were wonderful! Thank you to Lloyd, Lynn and the team.
Enjoyed our stay, everything was as described, very clean, comfortable beds, everything worked, loved the under floor heating in the bathroom. Staff were very friendly and sociable. Suggestions for improvement lights needed above bathroom cabinet and bedroom mirrors, towel rail next to bathroom sink, full length mirror in one of the bedrooms. Only negative was the ratmouse trap next to the decking and behind the hot tub potential danger to our inquisitive dog.

We found the cottage to be very clean and tidy with Good facilities. The double bed we found to be rather small. The hot tub was good to try out but the paving and surroundings were dirty. Location of the cottage is good for exploring the Somerset coast. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Walnut cottage.
Walnut Cottage was everything we expected and more. The views were spectacular and the whole surroundings were very well maintained and we loved it that much we would recommend and go again. This property is a credit to the owners.
Darren
Great property location to get out and explore both ends of the coast. A nice mix of old barn style fixtures and gadgets Netflix and internet and hot tub is a great bonus at the end of the day. Main bed for be a bit too soft otherwise a great find.
Lovely little Cottage, Quiet, private and very peaceful, We would happily go and stay there again.
2nd visit to this cottage and both visits were excellent, site is wonderful, cottage is brilliant and the hot tub is a bonus, will certainly be coming back.
Lynette Eileen
Had a lovely relaxing week in a lovely setting. Staff were friendly, the jacuzzi was wonderful and lovely and clean. The cottage was very clean and adequate as we were out most days. The garden area was nice and had both shade and sun.
Very nice cottage in a lovely setting. Loved the wildlife. Location was good for us. Well maintained , very private perfect for us.
Walnut cottage can be summed up in one word. Perfect. We had a great time and wish we had booked 2 weeks instead of one. The whole idea of Mum and myself was to have a peaceful and relaxing week after what has been a very stressful year for us. Peace and relaxation was exactly what we got. We can't wait to come back.
Carolyn
Lovely property in quiet setting, we had a very nice relaxing week
The cottage was suberb, lovely and clean and within easy reach of fantastic beaches. My only criticism as such, is that as it was dog friendly, that the gardens be enclosed . This wasnt a big problem by any means but more if a preference on our part as it is easier just to let the dogs out rather than having to put them on a lead.
Stephanie
Lovely property, great hot tub! The location is really convenient and the cottage has all the facilities you need. Great staff onsite and I would highly recommend booking here!
Hayley
We loved our stay and enjoyed the location. The cottage was as described in the advert. A minor point with the oven, there didnt seem to be a way of telling it was up to temperature.
Gillian
We think that the proximity of the nearest pub should be more accurate in the description as it is more than a mile.
A lovely cottage in a great location
The cottage is in a lovely position with beautiful views. We had a very enjoyable time in this well kept and cosy cottage and although the mornings were quite cold with frost on the ground we were never cold at all. The hot tub was a very enjoyable bonus as were the televisions in every room. The only small quibble I have is that we could have done with a proper freezer, not just a small part of the fridge, but we managed and we were there for nearly two weeks.

Water pressure was none existent so having a shower was nearly impossible, the water pressure good for 90120 seconds then turned to a dribble. Not the end of the world but after a 10 mile hike its good to have a refreshing shower. The owners were very polite but stayed in the background, We turned up early and the cottage was clean and empty so we went in, the owner did turn up an hour later and we were unpacked and settled and to their credit didnt make an issue about it, which meant a lot as it was raining heavily and to have had to sit in the car for two hours wouldnt have been great.
Advertised as being within a mile of a pub but in reality the cottage is nowhere near either of the two local pubs and certainly not walking distance especially after dark. Please change the description to be more accurate.
Robert
The cottage was in an excellent location for sightseeing in Somerset and beyond. Plenty of good pubs locally to eat out. Hot tub was a real hit.
Perfect location. Lovely and cosy cottage, has absolutely everything you could need. Exceptionally clean. Lovely family holiday in a quiet and private setting.
Beautiful site and lovely cottage no complaints at all and would definitely recommend
I think you delivered everything you stated. Modern comfy furnishings.
Had a week away at the end of November to spend some time walking along the coast and exploring Exmoor. The location of the site was ideal for this being a short drive from Dunster and the coast. Accommodation was excellent as it was warm and comfortable with everything we needed. The site was lovely and quiet. The hot tub was ideal for relaxing after many hours of walking and it was checked and maintained each day by Dan or by Louis the site owner. We had a really pleasant and relaxing stay.
Jennifer
The site was lovely and clean. All cottages were sited to be very private. Cottage was exceptionally clean with lovely facilities. The hot tub was a bonus. It was cleaned every morning. It would be nice if the garden was fenced so you could let your dog out whilst you sat in the sun.
Josephine
Walnut Cottage is delightful, we have been 6 times we love it so much, very dog friendly. Lloyd and Lyne wonderful hosts, nothing to much trouble. Lovely places to visit especially Dunster Castle. We shall be booking again very soon.
Cottage was beautiful and kept in lovely grounds. Although several cottages together it felt private. Lloyd kept the hot tub clean. They even provided you with 4 sun loungers. Overall it was a lovely holiday in a beautiful location
The cottage was just what we needed, quiet, private and in a lovely setting. Only a few miles from the delightful village of Watchet and stunning bay and beach at Blue Anchor. We are already booking to go back. Thank you
Spotless top to bottom lovely time
Josephine
This is our 4th visit to Walnut Cottage, it's always so lovely to go back and see Lloyd and Sharon they are so kind nothing to much trouble. I highly recommend a visit . We hope to go back again later in the year
A lovely cottage, well equipped, maintained and spotlessly clean. Would definitely stay again
We felt for the price and in a house sleeping four adults one single roll of toilet paper was not enough. We had to ask for a second which was embarrassing! Also in a cottage with a hot tub more than one towel per adult was definitely needed. Or we ought to be advised to bring our own. There was a washing machine but no dryer so couldn't even wash them. On arrival we had no light... Which was quickly sorted but still not a good first impression. Then shortly after we lost water too. The site manager came in to fix this issue but we were sat having dinner and he worked around us in quite a small space, climbing a ladder millimetres away from my plate. Not good!
Sharon
Quiet and peaceful with plenty of lovely walks. Advertised very accurate with all information we required. Second time stayed and booked with walnut cottage and would still go back again. Our third time booked with Sykes cottages and would book again plenty of places and areas to go. Very good all round company thanks again
Veronica
The comfort of the cottage was great. The hot tub was amazing and lovely and private. The kitchen was well equipped but lacked a decent dinner plate, we had to go out and buy four plates to serve our dinner on. Other than that, couldn't fault it.
Lovely Cottage and hot tub, really enjoyed our stay, very quiet, just what we needed.
